AI for Speech and Communication

Sign-Speak instantly translates sign language to voice &/or text and then speech to sign language. It's making waves in the U.S. where the Deaf/Hard of Hearing developers have focused on American Sign Language (ASL). The vision? Seamless, two-way communication without needing a live interpreter every time. Think of the possibilities across acute care, telehealth, schools, and community.

Although it doesn’t yet support Auslan, the developers are listening. Auslan and other signed languages are on their radar, so this is one to watch!

Voiceitt recognises and translates low intelligibility speech (e.g.: dysarthria, stroke, degenerative conditions).Voiceitt learns the person’s unique speech patterns and then translates it into clear, intelligible speech in real time.

Voiceitt could be a game changer for independence and inclusion for people with low intelligibility. Watch it in action:

A new wearable device is flipping the script on how we support people with vocal cord dysfunctio (think post-laryngectomy, paralysis, or other voicing challenges). This flexible, waterproof patch sits on the throat and uses AI to interpret muscle movements and convert them into speech with over 94% accuracy. Imagine supporting a client’s voice without bulky equipment. This tech could be a powerful tool in the toolkit for voice therapy. Read about it in the open access article in Nature Communication:

Friend AI is not designed for communication intervention, but it has a lot of potential to help people with communication difficulties. Friend AI is designed to be a companion that chats with you throughout the day—hard to even comprehend. Watch the clip below. C.R.E.E.P.Y…… not designed for therapy, but this AI is could help tick off social goal generalisation in select environments. It listens, remembers details, and makes conversations feel natural. Friend AI may provide low-stress conversation practice, real-time feedback, and personalise interactions. Friend AI is not a therapy tool, but could be a support for social communication goals.
